Do I have to pay to start a shop?

Opening a shop and selling items on Catawiki is absolutely free of charge. Only for placing items in your shop with a sales value of € 75 or more you pay 7.00% insertion fees of the selling price (excl. VAT). In case of sale is never afterwards Commission due.

You can view your shop using the option 'My Shop' in the menu bar. You can add your own images of items in My Shop when you click it.

Many collectors on Catawiki keep track of their wish list. When you offer something for sale that other users have in their wish list, they automatically get a notification e-mail.

Go to 'My shop' (when logged in), and click 'Shop settings'

You can now personalize your shop:
You can for example add your own banner, the name of your shop and the informational text about your shop. You need an oblong image. You will get the best results if the size of your banner is 960x130 pixels. You can use a suitable existing image, but it's best to cut out a part of an image with the stated dimensions of 960x130 pixels. This can be done in all general image editing programs. You can also ask somebody who is handy with those programs.

Adding multiple items in one go (bulk add)

Adding multiple items in one go (bulk add)

If you want to sell a complete year of loose Donald Duck issue, for example, it is much more convenient to add the items all at once. You can do this by going to the catalogue on the homepage and searching for the series you want to add. Then you can check the items in the catalogue per page. When you have checked multiple items on a single page, click the 'Add bulk to collection, shop or wish list' button in the left-hand column.

Then you state to what you want to add it to. Choose 'Shop' and enter a selling price. This selling price will be the price for which the selected items will be put on sale individually, unless you choose 'Combination offer' under 'Offer as' (see below). You can always change the selling price of an item in your shop if it has a different price.

Adding multiple items in one go (bulk add)

Note: when you choose 'Bulk add' without selecting any check marks, the complete selection will be added. For example, if you go to Donald Duck (magazine) and immediately choose 'Add bulk', you would add all volumes from 1952 until now as loose editions. If you first choose a year in the left-hand column and then choose 'Add bulk', you only add that single annual volume. You can always delete items from your shop that you do not have a copy of. This is very handy if you have a lot of items in a collection, but it is not totally complete.

How can I offer multiple items as a combination offer?

How can I offer multiple items as a combination offer?

It is possible to offer a combination of items in one lot. Do this by selecting the right items and clicking 'Bulk add' in the left-hand column. When adding the items to your shop, you then should select 'Combination offer' under 'Offer as'. Selecting items should be done by adding check marks in the photo gallery or by choosing a specific collectors' area.

To top

How can I choose a collectors' area?

If you want to offer Donald Duck annual volume 1980 as a combination offer, you have to go to "Donald Duck (magazine)" in the comics area and choose "Volume 1980" in the left column. Then click "Bulk add". The complete selection, all 52 weekly issues of the magazine (multiple pages in the photo gallery) can than be added to your shop. This means you do not have to checkmark single items in the gallery. Multiple selections can be made using the filter option above the photo gallery.

How do I add checkmarks for the right combination of items?

If you want to make a combination offer of three special 50-guilder coins from 1991, 1995 and 1998, you go to the "Coin" area, search for the photo gallery with 50-guilder coins and tick the three special coins from those years. Then click 'Bulk add', which gives you the option to offer the highlighted coins as a combination offer.

In your shop, the lots with multiple items can be seen via the "Combination offers" link. It is also possible to add you own image to a specific combination offer by clicking the offer. You will then see the various items that are part of the combination. The catalogue will also show that the items are being offered as a combination offer.

I received an order. How should I handle this?

When you sell something, you receive an e-mail with the buyer's details. The buyer might also be interested in extra information about your item which he/she may then request. You are able to reply to such a request through the Catawiki message system.

Sellers can keep track of incoming orders through the "Incoming orders" in the left-hand column of their "Profile" page. When an order is placed, its status is "Ordered". Depending on the progress in the payment and delivery process, the status may be changes to "Paid", "Packed", "Sent" etc. The various orders will then be placed in folders to give a good overview. Sellers can also add some details about each status in order to keep track of any details in the process. Buyers are able to see the status of the order by clicking "History" on the "My orders" page (see My Profile).

For commercial sellers: How do I become a Pro shop?

You can become a pro seller by sending us an e-mail. To do so, go to the contact page.

Advantages:

  • Gain customers' trust by having the pro icon next to your shop name
  • Your shop can be viewed (without Catawiki navigation) through its own web address (www.catawiki.nl/your-username).
  • Your pro products are listed first when sorting by price.
To top

What is the Pro icon?

We distinguish between professional and personal selling. Professional sellers can have the indicator "pro" after their names. The advantage is that many buyers prefer to buy from these "pro shops" because it gives them more certainty due to legal right and guarantees. Items from a "pro shop" will always appear first when a user searches for this item.

What is the Pro icon?

Are you a professional seller and would you like this to be shown on Catawiki? Please contact us through the contact page. State the name of your shop and the Chamber of Commerce (KvK, trade register) number. We will show this number in your shop. Also make sure that your postal or shop address is stated in your shop. This is a important criterion.

Professional sellers may belong to a sector organization (e.g. the Dutch Philatelists' Society). If so, we will indicate that. This offers even more certainty for buyers.

To top

Can my shop be found on its own domain address?

Yes. Your shop can be found without the Catawiki menu bar on www.catawiki.nl/your-username. You might choose to have your own web address redirected to your shop, as for example this shop did: www.hetgeleteken.nl. If you use one of these ways to log in to your webshop, the Catawiki navigation will not be shown any more and it really becomes your unique standalone webshop.

How do I get noticed in the search results?

The owner of every shop should state how it handles transaction costs. If it is not mentioned, ask about it in your e-mail contacts with the seller.

To top

Is Catawiki responsible for the bought items?

No, Catawiki is never responsible for buy or sell transactions. Just like with an online marketplace, the transaction will take place solely between buyer and seller. That is, without any intervention by Catawiki.

To top

Can I choose an item from the catalogue in order to sell a slightly different item?

If you indicate in the catalogue that you have an item for sale, then it should really be the same item. In particular, check the description in the catalogue. You might possibly indicate under 'own notes' that something is missing (such as an appendix). Offering something really different is not allowed. For example, indicating "Reprint" in your own notes for the first edition of a book. This is not only misleading to buyers who initially thought they were buying the first edition, but also complicates the automatic derivation of the catalogue prices of the items offered and sold. For the same reason, offering a series of items under one item in the catalogue is not allowed.

To top

How do I indicate the correct condition of an item?

The chosen condition label should match the condition of the offered item. Indicating a better condition than the actual condition of the item is not allowed. Try to give a fair indication.

To top

Can I use an image that I found on the Internet to add to the catalogue?

If an item is to be added - something we really encourage - it really should be an image of the item on offer.

To top

How do I define the selling price?

Offered items should really be for sale on Catawiki for the stated price (except for clear mistakes). Stating under "Own notes" that the item is only for sale through another website or via a better offer is not allowed.

To top

What should I do if I sold something that appears to be not in stock?

As a seller, it is your duty to keep your stock on Catawiki in line with the items that you actually offer. If you are at a fair, for example, we do understand that you are not able to update your stock immediately when you sell something. However, try to do so as soon as possible after the fair. That's the way it works at Catawiki. If you unfortunately discover that you do not have a specific item any more, send the buyer and e-mail as soon as possible to find a solution (e.g. cancel the transaction or offer a similar item).

To top

Can I use Catawiki to redirect people to my own shop?

Displaying messages to let potential customers buy your items at a shop outside Catawiki (e.g. your own or an external website) is not allowed.

To top

Can I sell imitation (fake) items?

Offering imitation items is not allowed.

To top

What is the maximum delivery time I have as a seller?

Sellers should deliver according to the delivery time stated in their shop, with a maximum of 30 days after payment. This is unless the buyer accepts a longer delivery time.

To top

I would like to sell professionally. Is that possible?

Professional sellers who have "Pro" logo in front of their name - which can be requested through the contact page - have to state their address (an actual address, not a web address) and their CoC number in their shop.

To top

Am I allowed to sell a slightly damaged stamp?

Offering damaged stamps in the Stamp area is not allowed.
