Books have the power to create their own reality.
Steven de Joode was captivated by literature as a teenager. He began to read anything and everything and wanted to own it himself. It wasn’t long before he came across booksellers and antiquarians, who soon offered him a job. His love of books continued to grow and he chose to study German followed by book science. He learned about exclusive, old works and all the features and pitfalls they pose. He put that knowledge to work at the National Library by participating in a large bibliographic project (STCN) and at an international antiquarian bookshop.
With all his acquired knowledge, Steven is the perfect candidate for auctioneering. At Catawiki, he mainly focuses on exclusive and antique books. Thanks to his experience, Steven can properly assess whether the books offered are completely correct, and he puts together his auctions with the utmost care. Personally, he hopes to include more travel writing, such as that by the 18th-century explorer James Cook. If he can attract even more international interest with this, he will have succeeded in his mission as auctioneer.
