Nienke Offringa’s fascination for jewellery started during her internship at an auction house as part of her art history studies. It quickly became an absolute passion, which she wanted to know everything about there is to know. Nienke decided to follow a smithing course, to become acquainted with the techniques involved with the making of fine art of jewellery. A gemmologist course followed soon after, demystifying the chemical and geological aspects of gemstones. Nowadays she stays up to date by visiting every big auction, fair or exhibition she can. All of Nienke Offringa’s experience converges at Catawiki. Her sharp wits enable Nienke to accurately determine each item’s worth by assessing the smithing work, the type of stone and what part of the world it’s likely to originate from. A good valuation is impossible without the right information of course. That’s why Nienke coaches her sellers into taking the best possible photographs, which greatly boosts the chance of success at auction as well, especially when competing with the wide variety of quality lots Nienke gets to appraise daily. She arranges them in attractive, varied auctions which manage to wow bidders every week.
