The imposing statues and masks made a big impression on me.
Ludo Bax’s uncle travelled to the jungle in search of tribal art. He traded practical items with the natives and sold the tribal art in his own country. His whole house was filled with imposing statues and masks, which made a big impression on the young Ludo.
Some of the statues were auctioned at his father’s auction house, where Ludo spent most of his free time from the age of eight. He started collecting and trading tribal art and became broadly versed in antiques through working in the auction house.
Ludo puts together great auctions every week as a result of his experience at his father’s auction house and with the knowledge he acquired as a collector. The nature of tribal art does not always make this easy: items can range from real antique art to sculptures bought at an airport. Luckily, Ludo’s trained eye quickly spots these variations and he always selects the best pieces for his auction.
