Antique mechanical watches are unique, every mechanism is an artwork in itself.
Mauro Atienza's passion for watches came from his grandfather who, as a conductor, was inseparable from his pocket watch. Mauro was fascinated by the mechanism behind the dial and he therefore started his collection. Through markets, fairs and exchanges with friends, his collection expanded quickly and when it was time to choose a study, Mauro Atienza knew he was meant to learn how to become a watchmaker. He studied in Italy and specialised in Switzerland as a master watchmaker. He then worked at several companies producing watches and has been a watchmaking teacher for more than five years.
An experienced watchmaker like Mauro Atienza is truly suited to Catawiki. It’s with great pleasure that he scans the offered lots, studying mechanics in detail in order to determine the quality of the clockwork. In addition to pocket watches, he is concerned with exclusive watches and the Rolex auctions. After all, Italians like stylish jewellery. With that knowledge in mind, Mauro Atienza knows exactly how to curate his auctions to serve all aficionados.
