Jewellery is inseparable with my life, it's in my blood.
Pedro Tarelho's family has been linked to the jewellery business for many generations. His grandparents went door to door with their goods and his father and uncles all opened their own jewellery stores. Pedro Tarelho helped at his father’s store from an early age. His side-job was at the factory where gold was melted and jewellery was made. Even though starting his own store was a possibility, he chose a very different career. However, the economic crisis struck and he lost his job with thousands of other Portuguese people. Pedro Tarelho then went back to the roots and opened his own jewellery store.
Having taken that step, Pedro Tarelho positioned himself as a successful entrepreneur who can now add Catawiki to his CV. His great knowledge of the market and extensive network of local contacts are indispensable to putting Catawiki on the map, especially in Portugal. He also knows how to create a good auction. Pedro Tarelho mainly looks for the unique lots with that one interesting detail that makes the difference. In addition, he likes to take chances by incorporating qualitative and inventive work of designers who have no major recognition (yet). This way he keeps his auctions exciting and interesting for enthusiasts and collectors.
