I think camera technology is so fascinating that I have built my own camera.
Edwin Molenaar was fifteen when he bought a relatively simple Praktica camera for going travelling. When he returned, he delivered his roll and talked to the owner of the photography shop. Slowly, a passion for the technique behind photography emerged. His first job was at the same speciality shop. A study of photography followed and years later he set up his own business in photography. His biggest achievement is a self-built camera, specifically intended for big negatives. It is clear that Edwin Molenaar knows the world of photography from every angle.
With all his knowledge, Edwin Molenaar is an authority in the field of photography. It’s no surprise therefore that he now works as an auctioneer for Catawiki. Thanks to his extensive experience, he has either held, used or disassembled virtually all of the various models of cameras and equipment that are offered up for auction. This is very useful as the demand for analogue cameras from the 80s is growing, preferably those in working condition. Edwin Molenaar can judge whether the offered object is still working or is easy to repair. He likes to give advice so that both collectors and enthusiasts are can bid with trust and ease.
