Religious art is so special because it transcends aesthetics.
Anna Dullaert comes from a true antiquarian family with religious roots. Her father is a certified assessor and her uncle is an expert in the field of religious icons. Both are antique dealers and learned the trade from their grandmother. Anna did not feel compelled to continue this family tradition until she went backpacking. During her tour through Asia she was captivated by the religious art that came her way. Anna Dullaert stayed intrigued, and back in the Netherlands, it became clear that her vocation was indeed in antiques. She started her own business and still gains a lot of experience every day in valuation, purchasing and sales.
Her vocation also brought Anna Dullaert to Catawiki, where she is responsible for the Religious Antiques auction. A broad knowledge is necessary for the large variety of objects she comes across, made from all kinds of materials. She regularly works together with her fellow auctioneers to assess the icons, sculptures, bibles and ecclesiastical silver to the best of her ability. It is precisely this great diversity that makes these objects so fascinating, for not only herself, but also the international audience that she creates weekly auctions for.
Ends Sunday 8 April from 20:00 CET onwards
