It's very exciting when an auction is about to end.
Although her parents preferred a law degree, Femke Lijklema knew that art history was the study for her. Passion can't be escaped, so she followed that passion. During her study Femke worked at Christie's as a working student and after graduation, she found her place at Sotheby's as an expert in classical paintings. There she assessed thousands of paintings and attended hundreds of auctions. Her knowledge of the market increased rapidly. After ten years she took the step to start her own company. With this company, Femke Lijklema mainly focused on the international trade of paintings. Nevertheless, the excitement of auctions remained with her all this time.
That is why Femke Lijklema is now back in the auction world. This time at Catawiki. Just like being present during a live auction, the excitement of the last minutes of online auctions is almost tangible, especially because she likes to give personal advice. In this way she sympathises with both bidders and sellers in the last moments of the auction. Femke Lijklema creates a mix of works in different styles and price ranges for her auctions, with which she appeals to a wide audience. With this, she manages to surprise bidders of all nationalities with new and exciting lots every week.
