Original militaria is a tangible part of important history.
Pierre De Breucker comes from a military family. His father served for 40 years, and his grandfather had an important career in the army. As a result he was fascinated by the army, and he bought his first militaria at the age of 12. He has continued to collect items throughout his life, during his time in the army, while studying art history and during his job as director of an auction house. He acquired extensive knowledge of militaria and the auction industry in general through his background and his own collecting experience. Catawiki was the next logical step.
Pierre’s knowledge of militaria is indispensable for assessing the great diversity of lots that he sees every day. The smallest details can be crucial for a proper evaluation. If he needs assistance, he always consults his fellow auctioneers. He also enjoys maintaining good relationships with his sellers in order to put together ever better auctions. Pierre notes that Second World War militaria continues to be popular, but there is also increasing interest in the Vietnam War and the Foreign Legion.
