The luxury of Jaguar
Jaguar is known for its luxury saloons and sports cars, having graced the world with some of the most iconic classic car models of all time. Elegant designs crafted by expert manufacturers harmoniously combine to create some of the most luxurious cars that are, according to their brand, ‘the closest thing you can create to something that is alive’.
Jaguar - the symbol of power
William Lyons, a young motor car enthusiast, met William Walmsley in Blackpool, England, when he was in the process of creating a sidecar to be attached to motorcycles. Lyons was extremely enthused by this project, so they formed a team and their partnership blossomed with the foundation of The Swallow Sidecar Company in 1922. The company focused on the manufacture of motorcycle sidecars in a modest dwelling in Blackpool. Soon after, the company expanded and it became more involved in making not only sidecars but automobiles as well. This provoked a move to Coventry, the birthplace of the British motor industry, to accommodate their new goals and in 1945, they changed their name to Jaguar.
To commemorate and celebrate this change in name, the company wanted an iconic and classic yet striking symbol to express the brand moving forward. Hence, the notorious, silver, jumping jaguar was chosen. A symbol of agility, performance, power and refinement steered the Jaguar brand into its future as a frontrunner in the world of car manufacturing. One of the most iconic cars of the Jaguar series is the Jaguar E-Type, a British sports car that was produced between 1961 and 1975. It incorporates beauty, design and high performance at a reasonable price, making this unique car a pioneer of the online and offline car market today. Another model that needs to be brought to attention is the Jaguar XJ. This unique series of the Jaguar legacy started its manufacturing in 1968 and it became a symbol of luxury. Therefore, in 1970, the Jaguar XJ turned into the embodiment of the Jaguar brand.
On the big screen, Jaguar cars certainly can take their place amongst the greatest vintage car appearances in films of all time. An unforgettable Union Jack covered Jaguar E-type graced our screens in Austin Powers, where Mike Myers’ outrageous character could not have driven a car more fitting to his personality. He nicknamed this car ‘The Shaguar’. Next to that, a Jaguar 1961 E-Type stole the show in the 'Italian Job'. Its dark red colour and powerful design could not have fitted the scenery of the movie more perfectly. Another memorable appearance of a vintage Jaguar can be seen in 'Shaun of the Dead', where a dark green Jaguar XJ 12 type takes centre stage.
The Jaguar brand
Over the years of the Jaguar brand, several models have been given the status of being a classic car, loved and treasured by connoisseurs and everyday car fanatics alike. Some of these models include the E-Type, the F-Type and the S-Type.
However Jaguar, as a brand in its own right, no longer exists. In 2008 Tata Motors bought both Jaguar and Land Rover and combined the two forces to make Jaguar Land Rover, a company that has brought together two of the most loved and respected marques with great success.
