The uncredited publisher Hans Held had headquarters in Berlin and a branch in Amsterdam. 1946, First edition in book form. A curious allegorical children’s picture book, not as simple as it first appears. A red fox terrorizes the creatures of the forest who eventually gang up on him and destroy him. Given the period one would assume it to refer to the Nazi Occupation of Holland, but, Hans Held was a German animator appointed to the NSB-led Dutch Film, which was a subsidiery of Deutsche Zeichenfilm GmbH and reported directly to Goebbels. The book has its "origins in the strongly militaristic, (alledgedly) anti-semitic film "Reintje Verwekt Onrust" (1943) which proposed that the Jews had brought persecution on themselves, though no reference to this is made in the book, the Red fox (villain) is and was, clearly meant to symbolise the Soviet Union. The wasp, in the film and presumably here were meant to symbolise Stukas, and the brave young urchins, the Panzerfaust.
