Original cartoon in ink and conte crayon on heavyweight paper, 1961, for the Montreal Gazette. On the hypocrisy of Russian communism and the pronouncements of Soviet leader Nikita Khrushchev about how the Soviet Union would soon be overtaking the West economically. In reality the Soviet Union would be on the verge of collapse by 1980. Titled in the bottom margin where the artist has also written "The Gazette, Montreal, Canada" and "Aug. 11th 1961," signed by Collins at lower right. Also signed and stamped on verso by Murray A. Harris, who was a well known collector of graphic art in California. Paper size 37 x 28 cm (13.5 x 11 inch), image size 32 x 26 cm. Paper protected by tissue guard and showing only light creasing. Very good condition.
