Society of beneficence: Mainly to prevent the purchase of spirits, their own money has been introduced since 1822 in the various asylums of the association "Society of beneficence". The first coins were manufactured in the colonies themselves, from 1837 onwards, coins like this were struck for all colonies at the same time at the G. van Maanen firm. New coins of ½c, 1c, 5c, 10c (zinc), 15c, 25c, 50c and 100c (copper) were introduced in Veenhuizen in April or May 1841. These coins were provided with the letters MVW and the reverse V1 (founded 1), V2 (founded 2) or V3 (founded 3). After 1859 these coins were withdrawn from circulation.
