In 1986, the design of the Atari 2600 was revised and the unit became much more compact.
At that moment the unit was aready made more or less obsolete compared to the Nintendo NES or the Sega Master System. However Atari kept on producing it as a budget console primarily aimed at a (very) young public and as a consequence was renamed “Junior” (jr).
There are various variations. Chronologically these are :
“Short Rainbow” with a short silver rainbow sticker.
“Long Rainbow” with a long silver rainbow sticker.
“Black” : no sticker
In 1992 the production was discontinued.
The Atari 2600 is up to now the video game console with the longest lifespan.
