Description:

Imposing Burmese statue in lace-up teak depicting an elephant trunk in the air, symbol of peace and happiness. It comes from a monastery in the Bagan region. It was carved from a single block of wood.

47 cms high, 38 cm wide, 71 cm long and weighing 30 kilos!!!.

TRAVEL DIARY OF JEAN DUMOULIN

Originally, this statue was part of a pair, they were placed at the entrance of a monastery, the faithful lifted the lid and deposited money. The second statue had been proposed to me when I bought it, but time, insects and bad weather had completely damaged it, making any restoration impossible.

I acquired it more than 20 years ago and it is part of my private collection.

It is an ancient, rare, beautiful and decorative object.

71 cms in length, 47 cms in height, 29 cms wide, for a weight of 30 kgs.

Around the first half of the 20th century.

CONDITION:

This statue bears traces of its age and use, the hairs includes in many places and leaves the wood appearing but this does not detract from its charm (see photos). The statue remains stable and solid.

It will be carefully packaged and sent with track and trace. Beware, given the weight of the statue, the transport costs are significant, but the object is available in Brussels.
