Artist: Gino Bonichi known as Scipione (1904-1933)
This oil on panel immortalises the Roman sculptor Marino Mazzacurati (1907-1969), a follower of cubism, expressionism and realism. His friend Gino Bonichi, known as Scipione (1904-1933), captures here his vivid eye in 1932 - the painter would die a few months later of tuberculosis, at only 29. His promising career began during a convalescence from severe pneumonia and was strengthened by his participation in the Rome Biennale in 1925.
