German text. A major collection of author's seperates on embryology and heterostyly in the genus Primula.
Ernst (1875 – 1968) was a Swiss botanist and was, from 1909 to 1945, professor of botany at Zürich; as well as algae, Primula was his primary research.
The collection is notable for its condition - which is extremely fine (apart from one paper where the covers are detached). But please note that many of them have uncut and unopened pages, and these will need to be opened with a sharp knife.
Four of the papers have an inscription from the author.
[A superb provenance - from the library of the geneticist C.D. DARLINGTON, with his initials on the covers. Cyril Dean Darlington was an English biologist, geneticist and eugenicist, who discovered the mechanics of chromosomal crossover, its role in inheritance, and therefore its importance to evolution. He was Sherardian Professor of Botany at the University of Oxford from 1953 to 1971.] Darlington's research on genetics contributed to modern evolutionary synthesis in the 20th century.]
