Protect us under the shadow of your wings (of the double-headed eagle, union of the two Empires, the Peacock (Czechia) and the Lion (Bohemia and Spain).

Contemporary full leather binding with floral frames on the plates and titles engraved in gold on the spine with 5 raised bands, in perfect condition. Bright interiors on well-inked, crisp paper. Professional restorations on the bottom margin, otherwise it looks as it did when it was just printed. Gold illuminated edges. Pp. 122 (LIX sheets (but: 61)), final blank sheet. With 2 woodcuts of the title and 49 woodcuts in the text. Original 15th-century drawings, first printed in a book, in the first edition of this popular genealogy of the Habsburg monarchy, published in Latin, almost at the same time as the German translation.
The Alsatian Catholic humanist and educator Gebwiler (c. 1473-1545; see ADB VIII, 486 ss.) was a friend of Jacob Wimpfeling's and had Beatus Rhenanus among his students. The woodcuts of the title show on the left the imperial eagle, which holds a hydra with many heads between its claws, and on the right the Habsburg peacock with a rooster and a lion between its claws. Other woodcuts include a half-page illustration of the Imperial Eagle and 48 portraits of historical figures.
