Work painted in a Romantic style by Jan van Essen (1854 Amsterdam - Scherpenzeel 1936)
The work is in good condition with some craquelé, the work has a very nice Heijdenbrink frame that is also in good condition.

Johannes ( Jan) Cornelis van Essen was born in 1854 in Amsterdam. He started his career as an apprentice to Koen Greive and Hendrik Valkenburg. His early work consisted mainly of landscapes and still lifes, later mainly cityscapes. Finally, as advised by the English painter Swan, he specialized in animals.
Without a frame, the work measures 43 x 52 cm.
