Ground stone gaper, 26 cm high, true to life replica of an existing or disappeared gaper, weight is 5 kg.
A gaper served as an advertising sign for pharmacists to attract new customers for the shop. These were attached to the façade as from the 17th century. The gaper is not yawning, but his mouth is open in order to take his medication.
Gapers are genuine folk art products and were only seen in the Netherlands and Flanders.
