Relativity, the Special & the General Theory, a popular exposition
(Über die spezielle und die allgemeine Relativitätstheorie)

2nd edition, 1920 (the 1st edition is from August 19, 1920)
published by Methuen and Co. - London
Translation authorized by Robert W. Lawson. Bound, publisher’s red cloth with a blind-stamped lettering and a lining of the front cover, gilded lettering on the spine, the bottom edges are not cropped, frontispiece portrait by Hermann Struck, diagrams and equations in the text.

Einstein seized the opportunity to publish an English version of the original German edition when interest in general relativity grew, after the theory was confirmed experimentally by Arthur Eddington's observations of eclipse in 1919. Translated by physicist Robert Lawson, from the third German edition of 1918, the English edition of 1920 was the first to present an important new appendage on Eddington's work by Einstein - "La confirmation expérimentale de la théorie générale de la relativité" - which was not included in any previous edition. The book, "filled with many easily understandable experiences," became a bestseller, reprinted many times.

The copy on sale is in good overall condition, as is visible in the photos. There is an ex libris label visible in the last photo.
