Boxed set complete with its two volumes.
Editions La Boétie
New books: all of the pages are uncut.
Set numbered 156/4661.
Rigid velvet carmine slipcase and portfolio.
Two octavo volumes in covers with French flaps illustrated with protective film, including the definitive series of the engravings and presented in 13 178-page booklets for the first volume and in 11 170-page booklets for the second volume.
Printed on superior Alpha laid paper by Papèteries Barjon-Moirans.
The original illustrations by Joseph Hemard were coloured in the studio of the master illuminator, Renson, in Paris.
The books are new, never read, no pages having been cut (note that there is a slight fold in the spine of the second volume - see photo), absence of dog-earing, cuts, tears, pieces missing or annotations. (Please take a look at the many photos).
The perfectly solid slipcase has some wear from storage with a “faded” look to the velvet on the edges in particular as well as light rubbing on the corners (see photos).
The portfolio containing both books has some moderate wear on the velvet with two small splits on the bottom as well as fading to the gilding on the spine (see detailed photos).
Two beautiful copies, rare in this condition.
