A superb book box in 18th century full red morocco binding with the coat of arms of the Marquis Hue de Miromesnil (Normandy), "D'argent à trois hures de sanglier de sable" (Olivier, pl. 2311, fer No. 9). Spine adorned with sectioned gilded fleurons, a title-label stating "Histoire de France" and a mosaicked green leather volume number label. Very lovely gilded fillet rolls with scroll motifs framing the covers. Inside covered with marbled paper, two compartments, one measuring 5 x 10.5 x 2.5 cm and the second measuring 12.5 x 10.5 x 2 cm.
In very well preserved condition. Light signs of wear, a small fragment of leather missing on the back cover, lightly rubbed corners, nothing serious. Impeccable inside. A functional, curious and very decorative object.
