Very beautiful iconography. Book illustrated with 50 engravings, 44 of which are tipped-in and among which is a frontispiece and a portrait in colour of Madame de Pompadour by Boucher.
This copy, as stipulated in the print justification for the copies on Imperial Japan, is complete with its series of engravings, printed in bistre, in a separate portfolio (verified and complete with the 50 compositions).
Luxury first edition, in an imposing large quarto format of this excellent study on Madame de Pompadour and her relationship with Louis XV, written by the famous curator of the Chateau de Versailles museum (from 1892 to 1919), Pierre de Nolhac, nicknamed “the Sultan of Versailles.”
The story begins with their meeting on 25 February 1745 during a sumptuous masked ball given in the Hall of Mirrors.
Paperback, cover with flaps, in a paperboard portfolio and slipcase.
Impeccable inside, no foxing. Sunned cover. Series in very good condition (also on Japan). Fold in the spine of the portfolio and the slipcase, the latter also has marked of restoration on the angles. Remains sturdy. Good copy.
