A deluxe and first illustrated edition of "Royaume de Dieu" with 86 very lovely original etchings by Lucien Madrassi (1881-1956) of the Jews of Poland, Russia and Ukraine.
Copy on Hollande pure rag laid paper, bearing the No. 247. Limited print run of 435 copies.
Very lovely novel by Jérôme and Jean Tharaud, remarkably illustrated by Lucien Madrassi (1881-1956),
an artist and portraitist with a complex talent for capturing
traces of souls on faces... For the production of this book, he travelled to the ghettos of
Galicia and sub-Carpathian Russia in order to give the work of the Tharaud brothers all the
tasteful veracity that could only be born of first-hand observation. The harvest
brought back by Madrassi, wonderfully rendered by him, makes this edition the most
moving of art books...
