Pair of Antique Walking Canes – Bamboo and Hardwood – One with Silver Mounts – ca. 1900
Elegant pair of antique gentleman’s walking canes, dating from around 1900, each representing a refined example of late Victorian to early Edwardian style.
The first cane features a beautifully engraved silver collar and handle tip, fitted to a natural bamboo shaft with warm golden patina and visible nodes characteristic of this material. The silver mounts are finely chased with scrolling foliate motifs and bear hallmarks, attesting to their quality. The cane is 95 cm long.
The second cane, simpler in form, is crafted from solid hardwood with a smooth crook handle and brass ferrule. Its organic lines and minimal decoration reflect the restrained elegance that became fashionable in the Edwardian era, when canes were essential accessories symbolising a gentleman’s status and taste. The cane is 84 cm long.
Both canes illustrate the transition from the ornate late Victorian aesthetic toward the cleaner, more modern sensibility of the early 20th century.
Good antique condition – minor surface wear consistent with age; beautiful patina.
