Vintage japanisches Email-Schild „Tabak-Einzelhandelslizenz“ – Showa-Ära 1930er–50er Jahre – Rot & - Emailleschild - Emaille

This is an exceptionally rare Japanese tobacco retail license enamel sign, produced during the Showa early–mid period (circa 1930s–1950s). These signs were officially issued to licensed tobacco retailers across Japan, and surviving examples are now highly collectible due to their governmental origin, bold typography, and striking visual presence. The front features the distinctive vertical script 「煙草小賣所」(Tobacco Retail Shop) painted in vivid white over a deep red enamel base—an iconic color combination used for official signage in pre- and post-war Japan. The smaller vertical text indicates a specific licensed area in Yamanashi Prefecture, further proving its authenticity and adding strong historical value. Historical Significance This type of sign was displayed outside shops authorized to sell tobacco under strict government regulation. Because they were utilitarian and exposed outdoors for decades, most were discarded or severely damaged—making complete examples increasingly scarce in the current collectors’ market. Condition The sign shows age-appropriate wear, including rust, enamel losses, mounting hole corrosion, and surface scratches—typical for genuine pieces from this period. These marks of age enhance its charm as an authentic artifact rather than a reproduction. • Rust around mounting holes • Enamel chips along edges • Surface wear consistent with long outdoor use • Gloss still visible on the main lettering (The exact condition is fully represented in the photos.)
