Thank you very much for your interest. Before proceeding with your purchase, please review the following details carefully. Item: Uchikin-Nashiji Shikishi Maki-e Suzuribako Noh Motif (“Okina”) Purchased in Meiji 34 (1901, box inscription) With Original Wooden Box Description: A refined suzuribako featuring a shikishi (poem-card panel) decorated with a gold maki-e depiction of “Okina,” one of the oldest and most revered plays in Noh theatre. The interior is finished with brilliant gold nashiji, while the exterior displays black lacquer with scattered gold dust. The scene of Okina holding a red fan is rendered with raised gold lacquer, creating depth and elegance. The inkstone and water-dropper section is similarly finished with reddish-gold nashiji, highlighting the fine craftsmanship of the piece. About the Box (Important Provenance Information) The tomobako bears significant inscriptions: ● Box Lid (front) “Kuro-makie Suzuribako” = “Black lacquer maki-e writing box.” ● Box Lid (inside) “Meiji 34 (1901), August – Written by Nishikiori (錦織)” This indicates that the piece was purchased or recorded in August 1901, providing clear provenance. Note: “Nishikiori” is the person who wrote the inscription, not the maker of the suzuribako. Period: Meiji era (1901, according to box inscription) Accessories: • Original wooden box with 1901 inscription • Inkstone & water-dropper (as shown) Condition: Used item. Well-preserved overall.
