Rosenthal - Jan van der Vaart - Schüssel (2) - Lid-Box & matching Bowl - Porzellan - Seltenes "Windmill"-Duo

Rosenthal – Jan van der Vaart “Windmill” Bowl & Lidded Box – Turquoise Glazed Porcelain, Germany A sculptural duo from one of the most important ceramic artists of the 20th century, Jan van der Vaart (1931–2000), the Dutch master known for his architectonic forms, precise geometries, and a rigorously modernist vocabulary rooted in seriality and proportion. After his appointment as professor at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie in 1968, van der Vaart established a new language of studio ceramics—pure, mathematical, and conceptually disciplined—which later shaped his collaborations with Rosenthal in the 1980s and 1990s. This rare “Windmill” set exemplifies his distinctive design logic: circular volumes intersected by sharply defined planes, creating functional objects that feel simultaneously utilitarian and sculptural. The soft turquoise glaze, subtly speckled, is characteristic of Rosenthal’s refined surface work in this period. The Bowl • Height 8 cm, diameter 20.5 cm • Original Rosenthal typography-label sticker was once attached to the underside; it has been destroyed over time, though fragments remain visible, confirming authenticity. • Glaze in beautiful condition, smooth and even. The Lidded Box • Height 14 cm, diameter 8.5 cm • Underside carries the intact Rosenthal studio-linie stamp, crisp and fully legible. • The iconic van der Vaart lid geometry is especially striking—half-disc intersecting a full sphere. A beautiful pair for collectors of Rosenthal Studio Line, Dutch modernist ceramics, or geometric design objects—rare, elegant, and unmistakably the work of a disciplined architectural mind. International shipping available with secure, professional packaging. Import duties and taxes are the buyer’s responsibility. Private sale under German law: no returns or warranties.
