A Tokyo school ivory okimono depicting a sarumawashi standing with a monkey on his shoulder. The man holds a branch of persimmons (柿, kaki) in his left hand, likely meant as a reward after the performance. The monkey, carved with striking liveliness, leans toward the fruit attempting to grasp it. Signed underneath the base. ---The okimono is in good condition. There are some natural ivory hairlines. Please refer to the pictures for further details. Okimono (置物), combining the kanji "oki" (置き, to place) and "mono" (物, object), refers to a decorative object meant for display.
