The Sendai cuirass is composed of five hinged iron plates, combining strength with a modular construction that could be disassembled for practicality. This design was standardised under the influence of Date Masamune, who commissioned armourers such as the Myōchin to develop this form for the retainers of the Sendai domain. The set includes the helmet, hanbō (half face mask) with throat guard, a cuirass, skirt plates to protect the lower body, arm guards, thigh guards, shin guards, and shoes. Unlike heavy-duty models, the thigh guards in this set are constructed without iron plates, instead using lacquer-coated leather and reinforced fabric, balancing protection with mobility. Inside the cuirass, the vermilion character 勝 (victory) is inscribed, a powerful and auspicious symbol for the warrior who once wore it. The armour shows significant signs of age and long use. The helmet has flaking lacquer, rust, and wear. The maedate displays scratches. The half mask has chips, cracks, flaking lacquer, corrosion on the throat guard, and surface wear both inside and out. The cuirass exhibits rust, flaking lacquer, and patina. Fabrics are heavily worn with fraying threads, stains, holes, and grime. Several cords have been replaced, fittings are missing, and some chainmail links are temporarily stitched with later cords. The arm guards show areas of repair, with reinforced stitching clearly visible. The tassets are made from lacquered leather (not iron plates) over fabric, also showing cracking, losses, and discolouration. The storage box bears scratches, chips, cracks, and surface wear consistent with age. Please examine the photos carefully to assess the full condition. The stand is not included. Shipping will be handled by FedEx. Dimensions of Box: approx. H 51.5 cm W 46 cm D 42 cm Height on display: approx. 150 cm ・Please make sure to review all the provided information and images before placing your bid. ・We make every effort to accurately represent the product's colors and textures in our photos.
