2019 Cálem - Late Bottled Vintage Port - Douro - 6 Flaschen (0,75 l)

2019 Cálem Late Bottled Vintage Port 6 x 0.75L 6 Bottles Port Wine WINEMAKER: Carlos Alves. AWARDS/RECOMMENDATIONS Gold Medal, Mundus Vini Gold Medal, Concours Mondial de Bruxelles (2016 Vintage) WINE VARIETIES: Traditional Douro grape varieties, in particular Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca and Tinta Roriz and Sousão. VINIFICATION Hand-picked at the optimum time, the grapes are then destemmed, crushed and converted into wine through a process of careful maceration to extract their colour, tannins and aromas, enhanced by constant churning during fermentation. This takes place in vats (lagares) at a controlled temperature (between 28-30°C) until the right degree of sweetness (baumé) is achieved. At this point, grape brandy is added to create the final fortified wine. TASTING NOTES A Port wine with a deep ruby color, with violet notes. Aroma of black fruit compote with notes of plum, cistus and white pepper. In the mouth it is full of youthfulness where the flavors of dark chocolate and licorice combine perfectly with the elegant, well-integrated tannins. Wonderfully long finish with a note of cocoa. SERVING Balancing an intense array of flavours, LBV is ideal for main dishes such as filet mignon. It is a wonderfully versatile wine, perfect with desserts such as chocolate mint cheesecake, pear mille-feuille, or simply enjoyed with medium-strength cheeses. The wine should be stored in a cool and dry place, sheltered from light and temperature fluctuations, and the bottle should remain in an upright position. Over time, it is natural that sediment will form at the bottom of a bottle of Port wine. Once opened, it should be drunk within 2 to 4 months. Best served at a temperature between 16 and 18°C. HISTORY Some of his contemporaries may have mistaken António Alves Cálem for an incurable adventurer, but it was entrepreneurship that fuelled his passion. When he founded Porto Cálem in 1859, he set his sights on crossing the Atlantic and exporting to Brazil. This at a time when Port was typically shipped to the British Isles and other European markets. Beaten paths were not for Cálem. Once he eventually set route to Brazil, his first transactions were done in exotic woods. Again, this could have easily been misjudged as a bold decision when, in fact, it was a pondered risk that forwarded a very successful business relationship. By 1965, Porto Calém’s reputation for fearlessness and grit had made its way around the world along its ships and crews. It was time for the image of the company to reflect that. Hence the iconic caravel being loaded with casks of Port was born, gracing every Calém bottle since. The vision of a great man tends to inspire those around him, and so did the dream of António Alves Calém — for every generation of the family to come. Also in 1965, António Alves Calém Júnior picks up the mantle and officially becomes his father’s business partner and successor to be. The generations that followed worked tirelessly to ensure worldwide recognition. In doing so, the brand amassed numerous awards for elegance, character, and quality in its wines. A century and a half into its journey, Porto Cálem truly represents the world of wine its founder envisioned. When you offer Porto Cálem, you toast to the tradition of excellence. PLEASE NOTE: This is a recurring auction. The seal number(s) you see on the photos might differ from the one(s) on your bottle(s).
