Stefan Batory (1576–1586) – 3 Groschen (Trojak) 1580, Vilnius – III under bust – NGC A beautiful and historically important 3 Groschen (Trojak) of King Stefan Batory, struck at the Vilnius Mint in 1580, the first year of issue of this denomination under his reign. The obverse features the crowned bust of King Stefan Batory, with the characteristic “III” denomination mark beneath the bust. The reverse displays the Knight (Pogonia) of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, surrounded by the mint and ruler’s legends. The coin features an exceptionally strong relief and remarkably well-preserved details for a 16th-century issue. The portrait of Stefan Batory is particularly impressive, with clearly defined facial features, crown and armour details. The strong relief gives the coin an especially attractive and impressive appearance. A very interesting example of 16th-century Polish-Lithuanian coinage, certified by NGC and presented in its original professional holder.
