1972 Vinum Tokajense Passum - Tokaj 5 Puttonyos - 1 Φιάλη (0,75L)
1972 Vinum Tokajense Passum - Tokaj 5 Puttonyos very rare bottle.
The Tokaj vineyard was planted in 290 AD at the behest of the Roman Emperor Probus and has produced rare and delicious sweet wines since its inception. Enchanted by this magical beverage, Louis XIV called it "the wine of kings, the king of wines." Thus began Tokaji's triumphant journey across Europe, and the wine became the favorite drink of Peter the Great, Frederick II of Prussia, Voltaire, Goethe, and Schubert. The defining characteristic of Tokaji lies in the fact that the grapes are not vinified immediately. The botrytized grapes, or Aszú grapes, are harvested individually in several passes. They are stored separately and then added to the dry wine produced earlier in the season. This unique blend results in a second fermentation. The number of puttonyos (or vats) of Aszú berries added to each barrel determines the wine's concentration and quality: three, four, five, six puttonyos, or the fullest and most concentrated drink, Aszú Eszencia. Tokaji, with its amber hue, unfolds intense aromas of raisins, honey, and chestnut, joined on the palate by flavors of prune and chocolate. With their exceptional length, these wines possess an equally exceptional aging potential.
