Mercedes A124 E220 Sportline Cabriolet, manual transmission, 1994.
Description from the seller
A Mercedes that should not be missing from any collection:
Mercedes A124 Cabriolet (full-fledged four-seater!)
Manual transmission with the very economical and smooth 2.2-liter inline four-cylinder M111E22 (four valves per cylinder, EURO2), absolutely unmodified and impeccably documented original condition with low mileage and very nice equipment (22 special features) in rare gloss black (Black 040). Collector’s condition.
Model, equipment and general:
Mercedes A124 E220 Sportline, first delivery (pickup) on 13.09.1994 at the Mercedes plant Sindelfingen, first registration September 1994 in Düsseldorf, since 2002 continuously in Bavaria.
This beautiful Cabriolet was first delivered on September 13, 1994 at the Mercedes plant Sindelfingen, previously received a (presumably purely registration-related) day-of-registration from Mercedes Brüggemann and was driven until 2002 in Düsseldorf. Since 2002 the car has been in Bavarian hands and has only been driven as a well-maintained enthusiast’s vehicle in summer (see annual mileage in the history).
It is an extraordinarily beautiful and very well-maintained vehicle in the sought-after 'Sportline' equipment with leather steering wheel, leather gear knob and the attractive sport seats in the check pattern in truly immaculate condition (no signs of use, no wear).
Customer services in the first years were carried out exclusively diligently at Mercedes-Benz and afterwards tended to be more frequent than the required mileage interval. The last service was performed at 175,829 km, although the service book would have scheduled it at 195,000 km. The service book with the original data card and the onboard folder with the original operating manual etc. are, of course, complete (everything that belongs inside is there) and in as well-kept a condition as the vehicle itself. Non-smoker vehicle, no animals.
The main inspection (HU) was renewed in September 2024 together with the appraisal for the classic registration (H-registration) and can optionally be registered as a historic vehicle with an H plate. Also, before winterization in September 2024 the jack supports were freshly waxed.
The car has been classified as Euro 2 according to a letter from Mercedes-Benz AG dated December 1995, which saves about €31 per year in vehicle tax compared to the H-registration.
A reliable companion for the beautiful season.
Economical, comfortable, yet agile and also very suitable for long distances.

Condition description:
Body and paint:
Body and paint are in excellent condition. The gaps are uniform, doors and hoods close perfectly. No rust. The paint has a very good mirror finish. There are no specks of dust, craters or pits. Any signs of stone chips are not detectable to the naked eye.
The chrome parts have an excellent mirror finish and are free of scratches and dulling.
All glass panes are in very good condition. They have no scratches, cracks, or hazing. All rubber parts are properly mounted, show no fraying or porous areas, and are soft and flexible. Their sealing function is intact all around.

Wheels and tires are in pristine condition.
Technical condition:
The engine starts immediately in cold and warm conditions and runs very smoothly. It revs strongly across all RPM ranges. No rattling or clattering. The engine is uniformly clean, and its visual condition is practically like new. The transmission shifts perfectly. Brakes and suspension are tight and make no noises. All instruments and indicator lights as well as the ventilation system operate faultlessly. The last service with oil change (and filter), spark plugs, air filter and brake fluid change was carried out at 175,829 km, and the last main inspection together with the appraisal for classifying the vehicle as an oldtimer under §23 StVZO at 181,006 km with no defects found.
The next German main inspection is due in September 2026. If desired, it can still be renewed before handover at the owner’s expense, with the usual inspection fee plus a handling lump sum of €200 (the vehicle is currently winter-stored).
Interior:
The interior is in near-new condition with only minimal signs of wear. The trunk is in near-new condition too. The odor is neutral and no parts are missing. All equipment components work flawlessly.
Neither the upholstery nor the dashboard, the headliner or the carpets show damage or defects. Everything is complete.
Documents:
The vehicle documents and the service booklet are complete. The latest service invoice is available, as are the documents shown in the attached photos such as TÜV certificate, etc.
HISTORY/OVERVIEW
Very beautiful original condition, see photos. Honest condition 2 to 2+ (Note 2 according to classic-analytics professional check, 2+ according to ADAC classic car rating). Sportline models in such well-kept condition are rarely found. Everything works flawlessly, it is appealing (non-smoker vehicle, no animals) and spotless. Unlike some MoPf 2 vehicles of the W124 series, this car does not have paint problems due to bacterial contamination of the bath in production.
Please review the attached photos and feel free to arrange a personal viewing.

Catawiki always aims to offer you the best possible buying experience. Our experts virtually review and select every vehicle in line with our submission guidelines and we require our sellers to provide the most accurate description of the vehicle. However, providing a fully detailed analysis of the vehicle is extremely difficult, and close to impossible. To guide you, we ask our sellers to provide information about the vehicle’s condition. Please consider that most vehicles for sale are classic vehicles and they often already have a whole life behind them, meaning that even a condition 1 or 2 vehicle might need maintenance to be ready for the road. It is advised to carefully read our submission guidelines that further describe details about the condition grades and types to manage your expectations. Cars are sold “as is”, meaning as described and in the condition they are in at the time of the sale and without any representation, warranty or assumption of liability of any kind as to the condition by Catawiki or by the seller. The condition of this item is the opinion of the seller and may differ from yours, your local garage, or the dealer’s opinion. This does not automatically mean the car does not conform to its description. Before bidding, please check your local legislation regarding vehicle registration.
