A fine porcelain cricket box, measuring circa 9,2cm in diameter and weighing 211g, decorated in polychrome enamels to depict flowers and foliage in a "sacred Tibetan flowers" design. Stamped to the underside with manufacturer´s mark of Hu heng mao zhi 胡恒茂制, late Qing. The website Watersilkdragon has a good article on the great collector "Zhang Zhidong 張之洞 and his Bao Bing Xuan Dong 和包氷瓷 porcelain, an intriguing Late Qing/early C20th pattern on Chinese porcelain which dives into the origins of this pattern that can be found on Jingdezhen porcelain produced in the period 1880-1920.
