Description from the seller
Original sculpture by Fabienne Picaud — "Le fil conducteur" — Turquoise blown glass & brushed stainless steel — Signed & numbered 013
DESCRIPTION
Original sculptural work by French artist Fabienne Picaud (born 1959 in Paris), internationally renowned glassmaker whose work has been shown in New York, Chicago, Shanghai, Seoul, the Netherlands, and Switzerland. This piece belongs to the series "Le fil conducteur", one of the artist's emblematic series pairing molded blown glass with brushed stainless steel. The sculpture consists of two turquoise blue blown glass elements embedded in a long sinuous stainless steel ribbon that winds into dynamic, expressive loops. The main, larger element presents an organic lenticular shape with swirling internal textures, traversed by the characteristic light reflections of molded blown glass. A second, tear-shaped element, smaller and darker, completes the composition, connected to the first by the steel ribbon that creates a visual dialogue between the two masses of glass. The whole evokes the perpetual movement of water, a wave, or a living organism suspended.
The work is signed and numbered 013 by engraving directly on the stainless steel, attesting to its status as a numbered piece within a limited edition. A sculpture from the same series and style was exhibited at Galerie Bertrand Hassoun in Paris during the Fabienne Picaud dedicated exhibition (September–October 2020).
Coming from a French private collection.
BIOGRAPHY
Fabienne Picaud was born in 1959 in Paris. Trained from 1979 with residencies in Sars-Poteries, then at Dudley College of Glass (UK) in 1981 where she specialized in blowing and cutting crystal, and at Stourbridge Art College in glass pâte, thermoforming, fusing, and centrifugal glass. Between 1983 and 1986, she collaborated in London with designers Peter Keene and Ron Arad for the famous gallery One Off. From 1987 to 1991, she taught glass blowing at ADAC in Paris. In 1991, she set up her own studio and developed a unique artistic language based on the constraint of metal on molten glass. Her work has earned international recognition, exhibited in New York, Chicago, Shanghai, and Seoul. In 1992-1993, she created works for the French Protocol Service at the Élysée Palace for the Summit of La Francophonie. She received the Premier Prix Départemental des Métiers d’Art of Paris Île-de-France, Contemporary Creation section. She participated in the Venezia Vetro 2002 international exhibition. Her sculptures are represented by Galerie Bertrand Hassoun in Paris.
