Captain Takasaxi Yoshihiko, officer of the Yokosuka Naval Base, arrives aboard the USS Missouri on August 27, 1945 - an archival radiophoto.
Archivally silver gelatin radiophoto.
Note: Captain Takasaxi Yoshihiko, officer of the Yokosuka Naval Base, arrives aboard the USS Missouri on August 27, 1945 for conferences preceding the Allied occupation of Japan and the final signing of the Japanese capitulation.
Captain Yoshihiko boards the Missouri in Sagami Bay before the veteran battleship, accompanied by other Allied forces units and an air cover from embarked aircraft, heads to Tokyo Bay for the signing of the capitulation.
At the same time, 46 transport aircraft and Fort-volants dropped 150 American technical specialists at an airfield in Atsugi, 28.8 km southwest of Tokyo. The 150 men formed the vanguard of the large-scale airborne landings of Allied occupation troops that were to land two days later under the command of General of the Army Douglas MacArthur, Supreme Commander for the Allied Powers.
