Hand knotted wool rug from Agapia Monastery, Romania, 1965–1970, 300 x 200 cm, 100% wool pile on cotton foundation, knot density about 90,000 per m², in very good condition.
Description from the seller
This beautiful large hand knotted wool rug was woven at Agapia Monastery (Neamț, Romania) between 1965 and 1970.
It was entirely handmade on a traditional loom, following classic Persian floral design patterns.
• Dimensions: 300 x 200 cm
• Material: 100% wool pile on cotton foundation
• Knot density: approximately 90,000 knots per square meter
• Technique: hand knotted
• Origin: Romania – Agapia Monastery
• Period: 1965–1970
The rug is in very good condition considering its age (over 55 years old).
Colors remain vivid and well preserved.
The fringes are original, clean and intact.
There is only a very small defect of approximately 1 cm at one fringe edge (clearly visible in the photos). No major damage, no repairs and no unpleasant odors.
This is a large decorative piece suitable for a living room or elegant interior.
Carefully stored in a private Romanian family collection.
