Description from the seller
We bring to you a stunning ring set with a 2.6 ct natural velvety precious ruby from the famous mines of Jegdalek. The stone was acquired by us directly from the mines in rough, over many hours we painstakingly cut away and formed the stone into this beautiful faceted stone. This stone is 100% natural, not only that is is not heated this color is entirely how the earth has produced it. This is rare as many rubies on the market are heated to bring our their color. Why Jegdalek rubies are special? They form in metamorphic environments with lower iron content, meaning under sunlight and UV they fluorescent, glowing, similar like the Burmese rubies, in fact many labs confuse Afghan Jegdalek rubies being from Burma when they are truly from Afghanistan.
Not many people know this but the people of Pakistan have always been pioneers and connoisseurs of Gemstones from the Indus Valley Civilizations to Gandharan to other rich civilizations. In fact the most important Mughal ruler who was seen as a great lover of Gemstones, Shah Jahan was born in Lahore, which is now in Pakistan. Royal Karhanas in these cities across these lands produced elaborate jewellery and manufactured stones into beautiful works of art. Many of our ancestors are from these same civilizations. An example of such rich gemstone treasures was the royal Lahore court from which many thousands of very important gemstones, from the Kohinoor diamond to historically significant spinel's, emeralds of great wealth was stored manufactured and then later taken by the British. Yet this history is almost forgotten and simply labelled "Indian", but this is our history. When you acquire this piece of jewellery you are becoming apart of that long history, you support the miner communities that rely on these stones for their source of food. Not only that but this piece is something that you can pass on to your children for them to cherish. This ruby also has a good size to it, the ring is left without black lacquer so the ruby speaks for itself, since silver is the most reflective metal it is very shiny where the metal has been engraved.
It is a common misconception that, until recent times, all red gemstones were simply classified as rubies. In reality, distinctions between different red stones were recognised over a thousand years ago. The renowned scholar Al-Biruni (lived over 1000 years ago) documented observations on gemstones, including their varying hardness and physical properties, despite the absence of modern gemological technology. In Kitāb al-Jamāhir fī Maʿrifat al-Jawāhir (“The Book Most Comprehensive in Knowledge on Precious Stones”), Al-Biruni described differences in gemstone hardness and appearance more than a thousand years ago, demonstrating that distinctions between red gemstones were recognised long before modern gemology. This challenges the modern assumption that gemstone differentiation is a purely recent development in gemology.
The ring was made by our own family craftsmen that have been jewellers since 1875.
Engraved fully by hand inspired by the rich heritage and culture of our ancestors, the Mughals, Persian influence, nature and older civilisations of these rich lands. Rubies are significant in our culture and the Muslim faith as it is one of the stones mentioned in the Holy Quran.
In islam men are forbidden to wear gold, silver is highly important as it is seen as a metal that is not only pure but sunnah (worn by the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)), Silver is a very important metal in our culture.
