Description from the seller

A very beautiful set of 2 solid wood Amsterdam School bookends.
The bookends feature gorgeous arched shapes, one of the characteristics of the Art Deco period.

Art Deco is a theatrical and luxurious style that was immensely popular in the 1920s and 1930s. Important elements are geometric and curved shapes such as shells, clouds, zigzag lines, sun rays, fans and steps, often with symmetry.
The dynamic look of Art Deco was inspired by Cubism, Futurism and the Bauhaus movement, with references to ancient cultures such as the Aztecs and Egyptians.
Art Deco derives its name from the design exhibition Des Arts Décoratifs et Industriels Modernes, which took place in Paris in 1925.
The name Art Deco was later popularized in 1968 by art historian and critic Bevis Hillier.
