Hermès Nécessaire De Voyage, a rare museum-piece travel case in Veau Barenia leather, in good used condition with visible wear, measuring 9.5 cm high by 32.5 cm wide by 28 cm deep.
Description from the seller
For auction: an extremely rare and museum-worthy "Nécessaire de Voyage" (luxurious travel case) from the prestigious French fashion house Hermès. This specimen dates from the era of Émile-Maurice Hermès (circa 1920-1930) and is a beautiful example of haute maroquinerie from the interwar period.
The case is crafted from the legendary Veau Barenia (Barenia Calfskin), a leather type famous for its natural grip and ability to develop an unparalleled patina.
All silver-plated parts (Métal Argenté) are signed "HERMES PARIS" and bear the authentic master mark with the stirrup (étrier) and the initials E-H, the signature of Émile Hermès’ ateliers at 24 Faubourg Saint-Honoré in Paris.
Inventory:
3 large rectangular crystal flacons (completely intact).
2 medium-sized glass flacons (complete).
1 large rectangular crystal box with a silvered lid.
2 small round pots (both have silvered lids present; the glass is missing from one pot).
Manicure set: essentially complete in a leather case.
Accessories: Original safety razor in case, two wooden brushes, and the original shoehorn.
Condition report:
The object is in fair, antique condition with a beautiful patina on the leather. The blind-embossed initials "J.B." are on the lid. In keeping with its almost 100-year age, there are a few historical repairs: the mirror has been reglued and the handle reattached after a previous break. These signs of use and maintenance are inherent to an object of this age and history.
