Description from the seller

Magnificent large antique French mirror from the Louis XV Rococo period – hand-carved limewood and gilded – 19th century – 113 cm

Important wall-mounted antique French mirror in limewood, finely hand-carved and gilded, made in the second half of the 19th century in an elegant Rococo / Louis XV style.

The piece stands out for the extraordinary decorative quality of the large upper surround about 28 cm high, richly worked with important rocaille motifs, vegetal volutes, floral elements, and hand-carved openwork. The complexity and depth of the carvings testify to a refined high-level artisanal workmanship, typical of French decorative production of the 1800s.

The frame is made of limewood, particularly prized in artistic manufactories for its carving quality, and features an ancient gilding executed according to the traditional decorative techniques of the period, probably with a chalk-prepared ground and gold leaf finish.

The surface preserves a splendid original patina with natural color variations and slight signs of wear due to time, elements that enhance its authenticity, historic charm, and collectible value.

Particularly refined is the inner beading border with elegant continuous beading decoration, a detail typical of high-quality French manufactories and fine decorative productions of the 19th century.

The rich carved corner decorations and the sinuous movement of the frame give the mirror an extremely impressive and elegant presence.

The original old wood backing, with period boards and joints, confirms the authenticity and historicity of the piece. The structure appears very solid, robust, and well preserved.

The mirror is presented in exceptionally good condition for its age. No missing parts or broken corners. Only normal signs of time are visible, with slight wear of the gilding and small cracks/restorations consistent with the antiquity of the object, as clearly shown in the photographs.

Magnificent furnishing element in French taste, ideal for classical, historic, elegant or eclectic interiors.
