Description from the seller

Welo Opal pendant, rough but polished, in a box

Silver bail

supplied with a 50 cm leather cord

Weight: 2.25 grams

Size: 2.3 x 1.2 centimeters

You are purchasing the opal shown in the photo (the opal has not been wetted for the photos)

The opal has just been cleared and lightly polished, but its natural shape is preserved

Comes with an invoice acknowledging my professional liability

All my coins, medals, fossils, meteorites and others are guaranteed authentic and come from private collections or professional dealers in compliance with the law.

The Welo Opal is found in silica veins just 2-3 meters below the surface. What makes its extraction so difficult are the methods employed. Only the inhabitants of this region are allowed to mine these deposits. The rural populations use archaic and sometimes dangerous methods to extract the stones. Since January 2011, a new mining site has emerged with stricter standards, bringing together 500 professional miners. The Ethiopian government regulates and monitors this wealth by not allowing buyers to go to the mining sites to deal directly with the miners. The Opal market lies outside the mining region.

The Welo Opal is often hydrophane. Indeed, when immersed in water it can become completely translucent, then regain its original appearance as it dries. The drying process must not be accelerated; it can take several days.
