Rare and fascinating compact portable cassette recorder by Philips, probably model EL 3302, produced in the first half of the 1960s — one of the very first compact cassette recorders ever made, at a time when Philips had just introduced the Compact Cassette format (1963), quickly becoming the world reference for this technology.

Design and construction:
The device presents itself in the characteristic vertical/portrait format of the era, with a rigid black plastic housing, a brushed bronze/aluminium top panel with the main controls: STOP slider, forward/advance button, and the distinctive red record button. The cassette compartment is protected by a transparent cover. At the bottom lies the large perforated metal speaker grille with the classic grid pattern and the Philips shielded logo, typical of the early 1960s.
The original black carrying case with strap — an accessory that completes the lot and greatly increases its collecting value.

Historical context:
This unit belongs to the very first generation of portable cassette recorders in history. Philips was the inventor of the Compact Cassette format, and these early models — produced in Austria and distributed throughout Europe — are today highly sought-after collectibles for fans of vintage audio and 1960s industrial design.
