Franck Pourcel is a French documentary photographer living and working in Marseille. His work explores the relationships between man, territories and social transformations, often around the Mediterranean basin.
Since the 1990s he has developed a body of work blending documentary photography and poetic writing, with particular attention to landscapes in flux, migrations, urban margins and popular memories.
Among his important series and books:
Stèles de Camargue (2003)
Néoruraux, vivre autrement (2004)
La petite mer des oubliés (2006)
Au crépuscule sur la jeunesse marseillaise
Ulysse ou les constellations (2013)
Comme un souffle de poussière (2015)
Moscou 1994 consacré à la Russie post-soviétique
His photographs are in several French public collections, notably the Bibliothèque nationale de France, the Maison Européenne de la Photographie and the FRAC Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur.
His approach is often described as contemporary humanist photography, between social inquiry and Mediterranean narrative. An exhibition of his work Ulysse ou les constellations was recently shown at Galerie Taylor by José Nicolas.
