Tornézy’s Bergeret et Fragonard. Journal Inédit d'un Voyage en Italie 1773-1774 is a first illustrated edition published in 1895 by May et Motteroz in Paris, in French, original language, hardback, 438 pages, measuring 26 by 17 cm, with good overall condition.
Description from the seller
Very rare first edition of this journey made in 1773-1774 to Savona, Sanremo, Genoa, Pisa, Florence, Venice, Padua, Bologna, Rome and Naples by the Treasurer of France and by the celebrated French painter Honoré Fragonard. The text, drawn from an unpublished manuscript and published here for the first time, is rich in annotations, curiosities, descriptions, and popular traditions of the various localities. See Doria, Foreign Travelers to Naples: “edition unobtainable.”

Twentieth-century binding in blue half-leather with gilt title on the spine label, very well preserved. White endpapers.
