Vintage Japanese Satsuma Demitasse Tea/Coffee Cups & Saucers - Set of 6 - Mid-20th Century
Material: Earthenware / Crackle-glazed ceramic
Estimated Period: Mid-20th century (c. 1930s–1950s)
Dimensions:
Cups: Height 5 cm, Diameter 6.50 cm
Saucers: Diameter 12.30 cm Height 1.5 cm
Condition: Very good condition with minor signs of age. Five cups and all six saucers are in excellent condition. One cup features a small, minor chip on the lip/rim (visible in close-up photographs). A natural fine crackle glaze (craquelure) is present across all pieces, which is characteristic of this type of Japanese earthenware. The hand-painted enamels and gold detailing remain bright with minimal wear.
Decoration: Elegantly hand-painted with traditional polychrome enamels and bright gold accents. The design features a continuous scenic landscape with a traditional red bridge, a village nestled by the water, mountains in the background, and cascading wisteria flowers framing the sky. Rims are finished with a geometric golden border.
Base Markings: Stamped on the underside with a circular "MADE IN JAPAN" export mark, enclosing the traditional Shimazu clan crest (a cross within a circle)
The lot will be carefully packaged and sent by registered and insured post with a track and trace number.It can also be collected from Amsterdam, The Netherlands.
