Description from the seller

Here is offered one of the cameras: the Rollei 35 in brown leather, including the book and the original photo.

Heinz Waaske and His Cameras – A Collection by Ulrich Vogt

The later Rollei designer Heinz Waaske (1924–1995) shaped the German camera industry decisively.

It all began at the Wirgin company in Wiesbaden with the first Edixa single-lens reflex cameras and the small Edixa 16, the precursor of the later worldwide success Rollei 35, which was built for seven years at the Braunschweig Rollei works, or in Singapore, after Wirgin rejected this new design in 1964. Later at Rollei his cautions to focus more on electronics went unheard.

Followed by designs for Voigtländer, Minox, Robot and Zeiss.

In 1995, the two photography historians Jörg Eikmann and Ulrich Vogt contacted the designer with the aim of writing a book about his life's work. Unfortunately, Heinz Waaske died in the middle of the book project, which later was to bear the title “Cameras for Millions – Heinz Waaske Designer.”

The two authors were subsequently aided by numerous employees of German camera manufacturers with important insights. The personal contact with Waaske moved Ulrich Vogt to assemble his own Waaske collection under his motto “best optics and best mechanics” (Waaske’s original words), which should embody the spirit of his designs.

Present and offered are, in addition to the cameras, an original photo of Heinz Waaske, as well as the handwritten note to Ulrich Vogt and his then telephone number.

Besides the non-fiction book “Cameras for Millions,” the following original constructions by Waaske are in the collection: It is worth noting that in Braunschweig’s Mascherode district there is a Heinz-Waaske Way in honor of the Rollei designer.
